Sylvia Mahon is a glass artisan who fuses glass to create decorative plates, wall art, pendants, and wind chimes. She owns and operates A Nice Piece of Glass.
Sylvia began exploring this medium as a form of art therapy during a period of unemployment four years ago. She enjoyed it so much that it turn into full time work.
Sylvia is a self-taught crafter but learned techniques and methods from other artist and by taking classes. Sylvia finds inspiration for her designs from the colors, patterns and shapes in nature, “the way the sun changes the color of everything as it moves across the sky,” and in iconic fashion eras.
“I draw some of my design ideas from the fashion of the 1950s, like the zoot suits and poodle skirts. I love the use of bold colors and geometric shapes.”
Sylvia displays and sells her pieces at art festivals, craft shows and community events in Montgomery, Frederick and Worcester county, including venues like: Celebrate Gaithersburg, Ocean City Springfest and Celebrate Frederick.
